Dealers from all over the Northeast will bring tens of thousands of vinyl LPs, 45s, 12″s, CDs, DVDs and ephemera. Almost all genres of music from the 1920s to today. Many dealers now accept credit cards.
The Women’s Community Center is centrally located in downtown Ithaca, just steps away from fine restaurants and plenty of parking.

Probably the best record fair in the Eastern USA (maybe in the top 5 worldwide) takes place at the Metropolitan Pavilion from Friday October 28th to Sunday October 30th 2011. It’s the WFMU Record Fair
Hours are:
7pm to 10pm Friday
10am to 7pm Saturday
10am to 7pm Sunday
Admission is $7 each day. Frenzied collectors can pay $25.00 for 4pm admission on Friday and that then gets them in for all three days.
The Metropolitan Pavilion is at 125 West 18th Street, between 6th and 7th Aves.
WFMU broadcasts from the event and there are live musical acts also. This year there is an associated event taking place upstairs called the WFMU RadioVision Festival. “Celebrating radio’s future as it takes on new forms in the digital
age for the medium’s fans, tinkerers and future thinkers.”

If you do decide to come to the show and you have never been before, here are a few tips:
1) Prepare yourself for sensory overload. You will certainly see records here which you have never seen before, and which you will never see again.
2) Stay hydrated. There is a bar and there is (pretty good) pizza, but you’ll definitely want to bring water.
3) Most dealers accept cash only. A few dealers accept credit cards.
4) If you see an interesting table, investigate it right away. Some dealers do not do all three days of the show.
5) If you see an interesting record, buy it immediately. It will likely not be there when you come back.
6) Be prepared to see other people walking around with records you wish you had.
7) Try to be tolerant of other customers and their elbows. Be gently but firm in establishing your personal space. This is New York City and some people can forget themselves when face with all the amazing records and a time crunch.
8) Have a plan. Go through the dealer list and map and plan out a strategy focused on your area of interest. Or just start at one corner and work your way to the next.

Huge thanks to the 4,000+ vinyl fans who attended WFMU’s 2010 Record Fair! The fair was a huge success, and we have over 100 dedicated volunteers to thank for helping WFMU pull off another great event. Gratitude also goes out to all the performers who were involved: the Hamburglars, Ted Leo, Tom Carter, Butts, Dan Friel, the Fabulous Diamonds, and Nelson Loskamp. We can’t wait to do it all over again — the next Record Fair is scheduled for Oct 28 – 30, 2011! In addition to 10,000 square feet of amazing CDs, LPs, DVDs and artworks, there will be the usual array of live broadcasts, live music and more! Be there!

Yup, looks like it’s going to be a nice weekend:
Woodstock NY Weather July 30/31 2011
The Woodstock Library is having its annual Fair on Saturday July 30th from 10am to 5pm. Record hunters should know that this is a good place to pick up bargain LPs, CDs and DVDs. Suggested contribution for admission is only $2.00
After that, come on over to the Vinyl Garage and have spend some quality crate-diggin’ time! It’s not the full-on, enormous tent event we have on Memorial and Labor Day weekends, but there are still several thousands of vinyl LP records, 12 inchers and 45s to look through. They cover pretty much every genre of music and you can also listen to any open record.
It’s going to be hot, so we’ll have ice cold refreshments on hand.

One word of warning though, the second England vs India (cricket) Test is on, so we’ll probably listen to that in the morning.

Looks like the weather is gonna be nice this weekend. The Test Match is on the radio so I’ll be working on the records outside in the yard. It’s all undercover so we’ll be protected.
So what the hell, lets open up the Vinyl Garage and Tent and sell some records. We’ll play some music (perhaps quite loud), we’ll have a coffee, some pastries and a chat and make sure some records have good new homes!
Some are cheaper than free, many many are $1.00 and the prices are pretty damn reasonable after that.

I just bought a large guitar oriented collection. It contains lots of jazz and jazz guitar LPs, most of which will be $5 or below. There are also some pretty rare guitar fireworks records from other genres.
That’s what I’ll be working through this weekend. If you’re a guitar fan you’ll find a bunch of beauties here.
